Cell Coverage on Mt Lemmon

Post by Sredfield »

Do any of you Tucson folks know what cell coverage on the Mt Lemmon road?

Pretty spotty. I'm headed up there tomorrow to hike Romero w/ the Stiller & crew, then camp Sun, Mon and Tue. I'll certainly let you know by the end of next week.
From what I remember mobile phone reception on Radio Ridge is pretty good, and you might have some luck @ Windy Point Vista. Probably also good around Babad Do'ag. Good luck anywhere else.

It's seems I only get reception when I can see the city.

I think it's Sprint that gets service in Summerhaven and nearby; otherwise it dies pretty much after you round hairpin...

I have AT&T. Zero coverage in Summerhaven. No idea about Ski Valley because it was closed, but it was good as recently as spring 2007. Windy Point Vista had decent reception. In-and-out at Seven Cataracts Vista.

I wonder about Verizon? It works well up here since they invested in towers over the past two years. I now have reception with almost no break from Show Low to Springerville on 60. And the dead spots here in town were taken care of, also. Good thing, too, if you need to call an ambulance. South of Springerville is still very spotty or dead, though.

It could be Verizon that works in town up there, actually...

My Verizon has gotten me signal just about everywhere on Catalina Highway - though it's "patchy" (meaning if I'm moving, I tend to lose the call). I used Verizon to make a call to search and rescue from the pour-off at Bear Canyon and Seven Cataracts, and I've called my husband from the bench above Marshall Gulch. In Summerhaven, I've had bars but never tested 'em, and I've made calls from Inspiration Rock that sounded like the person was sitting right next to me.

In Tucson, as far as I'm concerned, Verizon is the bomb. No one else's coverage even comes close.

If they ever make it so that I can move my iPhone, I'm there. AT&T is the suck...

Verizon is the bomb--they have invested the money in the towers, and that's a fact. Good old capitalism at work...
