Reavis-Rogers cyn Backpack

Post by pencak »

This is it. The three day I've been planning, a 31.7 mi. balloon loop. Going to Reavis Sat. 4-10-10, Sun. 4-11 to somewhere in Roger's Cyn (probably 33.45038, -11.19654 unless somebody has a better suggestion), Mon. 4-12 back home. Hoping that there's water somewhere in Roger's Cyn. still. I want to avoid lugging a 6 liter dromedary from Roger's ranch to make it. Got to take a Monday off to do it. I know it's somewhat late notice and some duplication with Dirt4dinner's Reavis hike but it's the only time I can do it. Anybody is invited that can make the days. Like the other guy's, I'm also training for a 50+ miler in July and have to run the equipment through the paces.

We will see you at Reavis on Saturday! There should be a group of about 5 or 6 of us, don't be shy...come on by camp and stay the night if you want.

See you there. Where you going to be? South of the abandoned farm implements (http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=121723) by the big tree at the end where the creek takes a turn? http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=121720
I'll keep an eye peeled along the way as I'm coming in.

I can't recall exactly where it was I have stayed in the past in regards to north or south. It's the first spot you come to basically from the north, you drop down a little hill towards the water. There is some old farm stuff there, but a nice big fire pit and lots of trees to hang a hammock from. Just keep your eyes peeled, you will see Topo my dog, he is black and white and fluffy...he will be crusing around the area checking out the scene.

Cool. I have an idea where you're talking about. I'll keep an eye out. BTW watch for rattlesnakes with the dog. I came across one last week on Dutchman. Probably nothing to worry about. I'm sure they'll really only want to climb into camper's sleeping bags at night to stay warm. :sl:

Just finished mapping it.
igallery/image_page.php?id=4192
10mi from the North TH to camp at Reavis
4.25mi to the Junction with Roger's canyon off of Reavis S of the ranch
2.75mi to the ruins up in Roger's canyon (camp)
8mi Frog Tank canyon to the junction with Reavis ranch trail
8mi Reavis trail junction with Frog Tank to TH

Monday is a 16mi hump so I hope I find water near the ruins. Sunday's a shortish hike so I'll load up the dromedary along the way to make sure I'm fully loaded for Monday. If anybody from Dirt4dinner's crew can take Monday off and want's to come with, they're invited. They'll have a ride back to their car drop off. BTW I'm stopping for prickly pear ice cream in Tortilla Flats. I figured I earned it after that.

i did this hike 4 years ago in early may. I took reavis to frog tanks and camped at angel basin where frog and rogers intersect for the first day. The second day took rogers to reavis and hiked out. Water was abundant. I brought a brita filter pitcher, drank from it and continued to refill my water bottle. I was just out at fish creek today and the water level seems to be comparable to that year. you should have no problem.

I just hiked the ruins last Saturday and there was plenty of flowing water so you should be more than ok. Secondly, hello to everyone I am excited I found this site it seems like there are a lot of cool people on here. I have been getting back in to backpacking and hiking again but have been lacking motivated partners that will actually follow through so needless to say I am excited.
