100 miles in june

Post by pickelltree »

posting for some friends. they are looking for a trail not nessecarily in AZ that is 100 mile (their goal) the started looking at yellowstone and Grand Tetons, but the cold is getting them. went to yosemite last year, than they wanted to do the circumfrence of rainer i believe, weather turned them. than they decided to try the colorado trail, but again the cold is limiting them to the sections near denver when they would like to be more towards durango.

does anyone have any sugestion that i can pass along. the group of four girls that are going have done extended backpacking trips before, but are not afraid to have a leisurely trip with the ocational 0 to 5 mile days. they are taking 2 weeks to finish this, including travel.

thanks

An out and back on the High Sierra Trail, runs from Sequoia NP to Mt. Whitney. Would be more like 110 miles I think. But if they went to Yosemite last year they may want to go elsewhere.

Edit: Not sure how the snow levels are at this year, there may be some passes that would be tough.

Continental Divide trail in southern New Mexico is good. I'm sure they can get a 100 mile stretch going and not have to double back. No quotas, abundant water in the right areas, and lower elevations means warm temps should produce a good hike.

I am 100% sold on the GET right now. Just finished a 30+ mile segment from Safford to above Morenci and it was primo fantastic hiking! Parts would be warm in June, but much of it is along riparian areas and shady streams...

Segments that would rock and are close to 100mi would be Aravaipa Creek through the Pinelano Mts. or Eagle Creek through to the Glenwood, NM area... Both would be great June trips...!

I was going to suggest GET, as well. There are a few ways to do it in Arches or Moab, too...

Grand Enchantment Trail. Don't look into it any further, you might find it too interesting.

thanks for the insight, you can always count on people at this site to have a plan or experience. they decide that they are going to do sections 4 to 10 if the colorado trail. she talked to a some guy and he thought that they should be able to make it with out to much snow. i'll let you know how it goes
