It's coming--the micro four thirds cameras

Post by RedRoxx44 »

Interesting to see where this technology goes--- Olympus has announced the EP-1, Panasonic has the G series out . I am getting more and more not interested in lugging a huge camera but these cameras with their small interchangable lenses interest me. I've seen some out of the world photos by the G1 with a Panny 7-14 lens.
Good review on the Panasonic G1 at Dpreview.
Will watch and wait.

I ordered the G1 and the zoom lens three weeks ago. Before taking it out I read up on the consumer reviews. Unfortunately it's not dust resistant. Then if you want movie capability (not that I really use that feature) the HG1 is ridiculously more. I figure in a year they'll have a decent priced model with video and better seals. It was tough sending that new toy back but it seemed to be the wise decision. For size I wish they'd get rid of the faux prism nubby.

I've come into temporary custody of the Olympus Pen EP-2 , pairing it with some panny micro fourthirds lenses and the Oly 9-18 lens. A friend of mine is trying to come up with the highly regarded but wildly expensive Panasonic 7-14mm wide angle so I can shoot a little with it on this camera. Very solid build, so far the few shots I've done are sharp and well saturated, crisp.
Hope to get out a little this weekend enroute to the AZH Christmas party and see what it can do.

Sony is now weighing in with this type of camera. The Nex3 and Nex5 are due out soon and boast a sensor around 60% larger than the Oly or Panny's have in a slightly smaller body. Will ship with either a 16mm pancake with a wide angle and fisheye adaptors or an 18-55 kit lens. One photo site reviewer ( not dpreview) thought the image quality blew the doors off the other offerings out there. The Nex 3 is under 600 bucks.
Where's Nikon and Canon on this???
Supposedly large prints are usable from the Sony's up to ISO 3200. I'll have to see it to believe it.

Been borrowing some point and shoot digitals, just using them around camp. The Nikon is a wide angle, yet to use it. Noted a commercial on TV some guy with a SLR setup was waiting to take a picture when a couple come by with a point and shoot and "take the picture".
