Favorite North Rim Day Hikes
I am looking to spend a few days at the North Rim next August and want to plan ahead. What are your favorite day hikes at the North Rim? I have already gone down into the canyon and not looking to do that this next trip. What are the best day hikes on or near the rim? I saw the 157 hikes listed for the North Rim on TrailDex and just don't know where to begin. Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Re: Favorite North Rim Day Hikes
The only rim trail I've hiked is the Ken Patrick Trail in a loop with Old Bright Angel down into the canyon. I liked the Ken Patrick Trail but couldn't justify the drive for it alone. The Rainbow Rim segments look more interesting to me. Might have more canyon views.

@cactusrose63
Also, you might consider following the thread updates for this recent GC-N.Rim request: http://www.hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtop ... =59&t=5395 from a new Marietta, GA, member who is also looking for hiking trail info on the top of the N. Rim. (he is looking to do a rim top backpack in Sept-2011, but there is already a lot of good info posted to this thread that might be helpful ongoing for your Aug-2011 day hike plans).

Re: Favorite North Rim Day Hikes
The Widforss trail is a nice one for a day hike.... it goes out to Widforss Point. I have taken this out and had lunch at the view point there..... And the Uncle Jim trail is a good couple hours hike. The Ken Patrick goes all the way to Imperial Point too for a longer trip and follows the canyon.... I haven't done that all the way but should be a nice one... there have been fires up there in previous years and there are spots on a lot of the trails going thru old burns... The Angel Point hike is a very short but pretty one and is paved all the way... Then there is the Cliff Springs one for a short hike to a small spring... Drip is more like it but has a different view of the canyon.... The AZ trail goes all the way from the rim to Jacob lake and there are many spots along the way you can get to it to hike on it for however long you want ..

Re: Favorite North Rim Day Hikes
Agree with Joe on Dschur comments plus I've done Widforss Point and would recommend it for a nice day hike with lunch at the point.

Re: Favorite North Rim Day Hikes
What is cool about Widforss is that there isn't that many people on the North Rim to begin with and I think the couple of times I have been on it we saw a total of 5 or 6 people and for the Grand Canyon that is not many... Of course in the first few miles will be the most.... One other couple of people were at the point when my husband and I went all the way there...
