If you get two of the bracelets, I think they'll throw in a Ginsu Knife. You'd have a new blade for the trails and your protons (plus those of a close companion) would be properly aligned...
Why don't you all stop being sadistic and make it an overnighter? I mean come on guys, I don't want to sit in a car for 4 hours after a 35 mile dayhike. And thats what it will end up being with that shuttle and then driving back home.
Leave house at 4AM; get back at 4 AM the next day. Maybe I'd be interested if I had a whole week off and several days after to sleep non-stop. I'd definitely consider it if you put it during winter break, but not if I have to work within 2 days after this!
All I can remember is that horrible horrible Two Bar Ridge trail climb, and that wasn't fun! On the trans-supes hike we didn't even make it from Tule to Reavis before dark on the first day.
Rally, we didn't start at Tule on the first Trans Supes. There's less AEG on their route (I think...) but still, that's a huge mileage and AEG day...Supes rocks aren't that comfortable on the knees either. Still, as a Trans-Supes hike it's mandatory that I put myself interested for now.
Hike Arizona it is full of sharp, pointy, ankle-twisting, HAZmaster crushing ROCKS!!
Hike Arizona it is full of sharp, pointy, shin-stabbing, skin-shredding plants!
Hike Arizona it is full of striking, biting, stabbing, venomous wildlife!
When I get the time I'll plot the route and throw up some stats. It's 21 direct miles so I figure it couldn't be worse than 35mi 10k. This will undoubtedly start and end in the dark due to the terrain. Regardless I want to do it in a day. I'd rather hike in the dark than lug a backpack. That's just not enjoyable to me unless absolutely necessary.
If anyone is interested in shuttling us to Two Bar it would be greatly appreciated. I'd press Kurt but figure after SEVEN years or so at Aravaipa that isn't in the cards. Setting up the shuttle late Fri and camping at Two Bar might be an option too. Whatever it takes, I think this is worth the effort.
Heart of Wilderness Route
JF 2.4, 2.8
Hoolie 4.3
Red 1.5
Whiskey 1.8
Dutch 1.6, 2.6
Total = 37.0
South Boundary Route
JF 2.5
Coffee 0.8, 2.3, 0.6, 1.4, 1.0, 0.9, 0.8, 2.6
Total = 34.2mi
Looking at Beartooth these are the main options. I'm planning on the full sampler option. I'll look into piecing a route together for an AEG figure next.
EDIT: On second thought I'm leaning towards the Heart of the Wilderness Route. This will knock out Frog and Hoolie which I've never completed in full
With minimal luck I think any November storm will leave enough. Otherwise I think the only guaranteed source along the Blue Heart Route(which I'm most interested in at this point) is LaBarge Spring. Which only knocks off a few miles. Luckily the consumption will be low unless we have a freak high temp day. May have to do a pre-cache hike or two if necessary. Get in there Dave...
I think others know about options around Frog Tanks Trail, I haven't been there yet.

I did r2r2r last fall on about 2 gallons total. Of course I only had to carry about 50oz at a time.

Guess Wally and Dave (if he can find his mancard) can make that judgement. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. Seems it would be more daunting to look up/down the Grand Canyon all day.

I figure the Supes would be tougher and less forgiving.
Thats what I was thinking. Plus on r3 there is zero route finding and not a bunch of trail junctions to look out for. You can basically just shut your brain off the whole time. And less water to carry with all the water spigots.
I'm officially interested in a morbid, fascinated kind of way. I'd think this trip would be a lot tougher than a Rim^3? I couldn't say from experience; so far I've only done a Rim^3 over 2 days. I might also be willing to go with a group with UL backpacks to do an overnight option. Back to back days with ~18 Supes miles each is no cakewalk. Have to think more about a halfway camp/hang point with reliable water. Anybody thinking about a key exchange to ease the shuttle hassles?
