The Marauders

Post by PaleoRob »

It is real. It is in print. Whether it is worth your time is up to you. All the misspellings, layout, grammatical issues should be ironed out, so it is live. I here it is, for what it is worth!
http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/t ... rs/6192896
It should also be able to be purchased via Amazon and other retailers sometime soon...

Rob, I think it's hard to review a book when we know you personally. It changes the feel of the story and brings it closer to home. That being said, I did enjoy the book and always looked forward to the next chapter. I could follow along and got to know the characters personalities. The story had all sorts of emotions and told a great tale. I think your descriptions of the country side created a setting that was visually pleasing too.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Is this code for "I read it and didn't care much for it, but I don't want to hurt your feelings since I know you?" ;)
That being said, I did enjoy the book and always looked forward to the next chapter.
I'm glad to hear that for sure!
I could follow along and got to know the characters personalities. The story had all sorts of emotions and told a great tale.
Glad to hear that as well. "Told a great tale" has a nice ring. Hopefully it was well told too! ;)
I think your descriptions of the country side created a setting that was visually pleasing too.
This especially is pleasing to hear. I might have to put this on the dust jacket of the hardcover.

Don't forget that The Marauders makes a great Christmas present for the hard-to-shop-for hiking fiend. :D

While small compared to many other book distributions, The Marauders has sold about 40 copies at this point. Considering I thought that I would sell 4 and give the rest away, I feel awful gratified! Thanks all of you who have picked it up and read it.. :y:

This is timely because I'm planning my first trip to Grand Gulch! I am downloading the pdf version to load on my nook right now. Do you have any suggestions of where to camp the night before going into the Gulch? We're leaving from Kane TH in April.

We camped in the ranger station parking lot! I don't really recommend it, though.

Muley Point has great views - perfect to wake up to. That's actually where the canyon cover shot is from. Can be windy though. Valley of the Gods, down below Cedar Mesa, is very pretty as well. I have used both for pre-Cedar Mesa trips. Of course, there is also the Natural Bridges campground if you want something a bit more civilized (grills and tables and the ability to refill water at the VC).

I'm running two contests over on the Facebook page for a signed copy of the new edition (updated foreword, new cover, minor grammatical changes, updated information in an afterword), before the new edition is officially released.
If you read the book, what canyon does Fowler get into first during the chase. It isn't mentioned by name, so you'd need to use geography skills. Winner will be drawn from all the submitted correct answers.
If you haven't read it, "like" the FB page and post a photo of you out in a wild place. The wilder, the better. Best pic wins.
Contests run until I have enough submissions or the new edition comes out.

My wife put Marauders on our kindle account a few days ago so I could load it on my phone. I'm through chapter 12 and it's a good read. I'm really enjoying it. :y:
