Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail
Join me for a trailbuilding work event Thursday, February 10th on the Black Hills passage of the Arizona Trail. These work events are to reroute the Arizona Trail off the infamous pipeline road and onto brand-new singletrack in the beautiful Sonoran desert north of Oracle. We are in the process of building 1.25 miles of trail at the south end of the reroute. No prior trailbuilding experience necessary. Please bring water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, gloves, snacks and sturdy shoes. Since this event requires a bit of a commute from Tucson, I have set up two carpool locations:
0700- Lee Allen will be meeting people at the Wal-mart at Speedway and Kolb in the corner of the parking lot closest to the intersection.
0730- I will be meeting people in front of the Walgreens on the southeast corner of Ina and Oracle.
People coming from Phoenix can meet at the Tiger Mine Trailhead at 0830, where we will caravan in high-clearance vehicles a short distance to the worksite. Here’s a link to the Tiger Mine TH http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Phoen ... ,-110.7315
After our commute out to the work site, we will be working 3- 3.5 hours. Sandwiches from Beyond Bread will be provided for lunch, so please make sure to sign up before Sunday evening February 6th and let me know if you are going to be attending. Hope to see some of you there!

I'd be there but I'm going to be in South Dakota, freezing various body parts off.

Sounds like a great weekend event. Too bad it's during the week! ;)

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail
These events are on Thursday because I work on the weekends, and because they are an extension of our usual Thursday Crazies trailbuilding events that the crew and I have been working for years south of Tucson. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer with the Arizona Trail Association on the weekends all over the state. There are several events listed in southern AZ for January, and in March, there are opportunities in the White Canyon passage (one of my favorites!) Later in the year there are great events one weekend a month in Flagstaff to link up the unbuilt portions near the Peaks. Here's a link to the ATA events calendar: http://www.aztrail.org/calendar.html
And Shawn, I feel your pain- I will be spending a week visiting my family in Chicago later in the month (if there was a "blasted by an icy chill" smiley I would put it here)

Hey, that sounds good and I will watch for the Flag events later in the year. Thanks for the info! (I might even have Thursdays free in the summer, anyway!)

Speaking from experience, the Beyond Bread lunch alone is well worth the time and effort...not to mention a great sense of accomplishment and
camaraderie with some great people!

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail
Since I had no takers for the January 13th event, I changed the date to our next event on February 3rd.

Since I had no one sign up for the Feb 3rd event, I'm reposting this for my last event in this area on the 10th of February

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail
I am new to the area, and I have over 1,200 hours of trail building experience, including some on the AZ trail. However i am new to this area on southern AZ and I am not familiar with the location that you are talking about. About how far away would that be from Sierra Vista?
Location: Sierra Vista, Arizona. For now anyways

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail
John, it's a ways from SV, north of Oracle on the other side of the Catalinas. However, there will be events closer to you south of Tucson later this month on the 17th and on the weekends. Here's the weekend schedule: http://aztrail-build.org/event-schedule/ I will pm you with the name of someone from SV that you can carpool with if you want.

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail
Sounds great, I like that it's on the weekend. I work with the Forest Service down here so if there is ever any work on the SVRD, I'll definitely be there. But if it's outside of FS boundaries, then I would still like to join. Let me know!
