Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
With .04 at FLG so far, it moves this January up to 4th driest. If showers continue to linger through the day as it appears they might, one good burst (.16 more) could drop the month out of the top 10.

Now it's 1 pm and pretty much all melted. Which is fine with me.

0.05 of an inch so far. I Don't think we'll get much more this month. The satellite imagery shows most the clouds east of us with just a few scattered ones to the west.

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
Just got off Mt Graham and it is snowing pretty good on top. Drove back down and did a hike starting at 5000 and up to 7000. It snowed on me the whole time, about a 1/2 inch at 7000 and just flakes at 5000. Also looks like it rained in Safford while I was on the mountain.

Snowbowl reporting 5-7 inches as of 4:45p. Not complaining, but the way things have been going this month they could use 7 FEET.

It is all melted here in town. But it did wet things down a bit. I drive my bus on a dirt road, which was a lot less dusty for a change.

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
With 0.06 inches of liquid equivalent precipitation (it all fell as snow), Flagstaff saw it's 4th driest January on record since 1898. Flag was 2.12 inches below normal. Maybe February will deliver. I won't mention March or April, since those months have been well below normal for as long as I have lived here, and for many years before that. We might pick up 1 to 3 in town in the next 24 to 36 hours, so the Peaks might get a good deal more as well. That should make Fremont more exciting.
At least New Mexico is getting something from this. Taos Ski area reports 11 inches of new snow and Ski Apache in Ruidoso reports 13 inches. Not sure if it is a dry or wet snow, but they have been hurting worse than we have, so anything is better than nothing. Now imike should have something to look at across the desert.
I watched a storm briefing from the Albuquerque NWS office. It looks like we will be on the western edge of this low that is dropping south from the Rockies. We won't get much out of it, but New Mexico and southern New Mexico in the Gila and Lincoln NF areas, and in between, should get heavy snow. Up to 20 inches in some higher locations. I guess you could Ski Apache, if you wanted to drive there. Maybe that's more for El Paso.

Sigh...but I'm going to Eagar this weekend, where we will be lucky if it makes it to 45!

Snowstorm is closing down Alamo! been steady for the last 24 hours... expected to continue. I'll be skiing around town tomorrow! Today, out clomping in the 10-12" base. Cloudcroft and the rest of the mountains should be buried deep!

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
UGH. I am ready to go back to Yuma. It is so cold here, and my car wouldn't start, I had to go beg a jump from random people, twice, and then I had to get a new battery. So, I had to miss my rock climbing class as well.
We had 10 school buses that would not start this morning, so drivers running all over the place trying to pick up kids for other people's routes. It was -1 early this morning, with a -22 wind chill. Then the sun came up. It is a gloriously bright and sunny day. Temp at noon 7 degrees, with a minus 15 wind chill. And it is supposed to be worse tomorrow.
At least it isn't snowing. I think I would take my new battery and go back to Yuma!

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
Today is the coldest nice day that I can recall here in the desert. I say nice day because cold days like this are often accompanied by a winter storm bringing clouds and often rain. Today is a spectacularly clear, sunny day. It's just C O L D.
37 at noon is not normal here!

No kidding! My family and friends have been posting pictures from the Chicago area all day on Facebook. I just flew back from there on Thursday- glad I got out in time!

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
It's official. 44 is the lowest high ever for 2/2 at PHX. I had only 43 at my house, and though it only dropped to 31 here last night, I'm expecting about 10 degrees cooler tonight.
On a plus note, I could use some new bed linens, and I think I'll head to north Scottsdale in the morning and drive through some ritzy neighborhoods. I'm sure there will be plenty of options to choose from. I hope nobody would consider covering their plants with anything less than 600tc

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
This makes no sense, it was colder by 18 degrees last month, but my pipes froze today, My bathroom toilet and sink have no cold water, but they do have some hot water. Makes sense. However, My shower/tub has no real hot and no cold water at all. I can understand the no cold water, but no hot water baffles me. More over, a thin trickle of hot runs through the pipe when I turn it on, but there is no improvement. I understand no heat when that broke last month, but no water, cold or hot, makes no sense. Especially when it has been colder before. How crappy are my apartments?

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?
Ha! My 1965 12x60 trailer is doing fine. We do, however, leave the faucets dripping, and the under-the-sink cupboard doors open.
High today in Flag was 10 degrees, with wind chill below zero.
Jim, how about this for weird: Every single bus that will be used tomorrow by FUSD is running right now. Every single one will be left running all night long! About 10 routes could not be run this morning. We were told to top off our fuel tanks and leave the buses running, with the idle set to high. (I also left one heater on low, so it should not be so icy in there when I arrive in the morning.) What I don't know is if the mechanics will be there all night, monitoring the buses. I think some of them will be. I hope there is fuel in my bus when I get to work in the morning. It is pure torture to fuel a bus with diesel when it is below zero, and the pump is about 30 years old and barely works. (They have 4 pumps, but only one works right now. You know, some things just need to get fixed, and to heck with the budget.)
Back in backward ol' podunk ol' Springerville, they plug the buses in at night when it's cold. DUH!
Here in trendy Flagstaff, they trust to God or Mother Nature (or someone) that the buses will start when it gets cold, but a lot of them don't. Meanwhile the poor kids are standing out there half freezing to death and wondering where their bus is...
