Topo Swap?

Post by mttgilbert »

I use Nat'l Geos Topo series maps and would be interested in swapping map routes with people who have more experience on some of the trails I have yet to traverse. Though this website provides a tremendous amount of information, I sometimes find the maps lacking. I would like more detailed routes with notes and such. I, of course, am willing to respond in kind. Any interest?

I've been planning on having routes upload-able to hikes. Though it will be next summer before I complete programming. I'd suggest posting what your most interested in here and if somebody has it you can swap e-mails.

There is a link to topozone on 99% of the hikes now :)

The topozone links are great. I just enjoy seeing the personal notes of people who have hiked these trails in the past. Topozone only shows me the general area of the trail, much the same as the topo program. I would like more detailed information about the possibility of side trips, interesting landmarks, or tidbits of historical data. The summaries provided are great for getting out on the trail but they are only composed by one person and have a tendancy to be limited in the amount of info shared. The triplogs below offer more info, but it is often relatively vague. I am currently looking for any maps of Rogers Canyon or Haunted canyon. I am looking for information on potential campsites, sites where water may be found, or specific sites of cliff dwellings or other ruins.

I utilize the USGS 7.5 topo maps. Upon review of the map I will locate features on the map both labeled and unlabeled and locate them on my hikes. I found interesting ruins, graves, caves, springs, very old bench marks and some unique geologic features. You need to be very good with map, compass and gps and you can also use the map with no navigation aids and use the features on the map as what I call handrails.

I have dozens of hike routes saved including a ton of stuff in the Superstitions and surrounding areas. I'd be more than happy to help anyone out.

Try this web site. I've found it useful and informative, if you purchase any routes, make sure to download and SAVE to where you can view them later at your leisure. www.southwestpublication.com
For the small fee, it's worth it. I'm on the east coast, coming out April 8th on a photography/hike expedition and it looks good to me to have the major sites I want to see GPS'd. (Dutchmans to Charlebois Sprg.)

This thread is 8 years old. The website you are currently on has over seventeen hundred free routes. Including Charlebois from both directions on the Dutchman http://hikearizona.com/location_g.php?G=6912,146

You don't need a GPS to follow that route anyway. Just follow all the Boy Scout troops! ;)
