New Garmin Montana

Post by chumley »

Garmin has introduced the new Montana GPS.

All pimped out with a 5MP camera and pre-loaded with 100k topo maps it's a drop-in-the-bucket $700. The base model with no camera and no maps is only $550 :o

So if you like gadgets, check out the newest offering. And when one of you buys one, let us know how you like it! And follow-up if you can also recommend a good divorce lawyer. :scared:

Personally, I'm gonna hold off until the Garmin Arizona...

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Montana 650t versus Oregon 450t

Post by joebartels »

I was trying to figure what the difference is between the new Montana 650t versus Oregon 450t
- 4 inch screen verse 3 inch :)
- 2.9" x 5.7" verse 2.3" x 4.5"
- 11.7 oz verse 6.8 oz :o
- Navigation is suppose to be easier (perhaps easier for newbies as I never found navigation an issue before considering it's customizable)
- 3 AA batteries or li-ion battery pack (to power that monster screen) verse 2AA
- Battery life is rated at 16 hours for the li-ion (same as the Oregon), 22 hours with AAs

New features...
- Voice commands
- Dual-orientation screen
- Raster imagery compatible (not sure on this, may have been doable before though not easy)

Camera specs... useless IMO until they pop a Canon in that baby

WARNING!!! - It's missing the bomber proof carabiner :o :o :o :o :o
...perhaps it's available as an add-on mount (like it isn't expensive enough)

I second that. Of course, I'd like to see Canon attach a SPOT unit to the 5DMkII
