This week a couple from a northern state went on a two day backpack trip into the Superstitions. Misjudging the difficulty of the trails and not carrying enough water they found themselves overdue at nightfall the second day. Most of you would say not to bad of a deal. After all it does cool off at night in the desert. Whats a few more hours of hiking in the dark just to reach the trailhead.
However the wife only took enough of a REQUIRED prescription for two days. Now stressed out and low on water as well, she became unable to travel and experienced a seizure and dry heaves. Fortunately SSAR did not have to stoke her down from Fremont Saddle to the Peralta Trail Head as there was available the DPS Ranger guy with his shiny helicopter.
If you require medication please take along more than you plan for when you go hiking or backpacking. No tax payer available helicopter could mean a stokes carry of considerable distance. Not exactly fun for the SSAR guys or you the victim!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

Re: Search & Rescue
Connie Springs? Do they mean Carney Springs?Authorities said the two hikers, Pam Paley of Gold Canyon and Phad Bradley of Scottsdale, had planned to hike the Connie Springs trail on the southeast portion of the Superstitions Mountains but were unable to find their way back down.

Re: Search & Rescue
Maybe that's why SAR had to hone in on the guy's GPS. If the hikers said Connie Springs, SAR would have had no idea where they were talking about either.
