1st time hike - Superstitions

Post by burntlizard »

I'm looking for an opportunity to do some hiking in the Superstitions. Being that I've never hiked this area, would anyone be interested in meeting up on a Sunday and showing me this area? I'm looking for perhaps a 4-8 mile hike, starting in the A.M. I've been doing a lot of hiking around the Lake Pleasant /Hells Canyon area, I consider myself to be of a moderate experience level.

Thank you,

Lance

If you do the Weavers Needle loop please locate, photograph and GPS the natural water tanks adjacent to the Terrapin Trail just east of Weavers Needle. The drainage flows west to east and drops down into Needle Canyon. Take a few minutes to explore the area and photograph the tanks and falls for others to find and enjoy on future trips. :thanx:

Is it the drainage at 33.43214, -111.364554 or a little more north at 33.434468, -111.364898? That first one looks like it has a jungle guarding it.

I am not familiar with mapping on HAZ to quickly look up the references you gave but yes as you cross the drainage there is quite a bit of brush and foliage alongside and normally overgrowing the trail. South of this point there is a nice campsite on the west side of the trail with a tree or two growing there for shade. I always entered the area of the tanks from the north side of the drainage to avoid the jungle and cliffs. I once slept in Needle Canyon close to where the bottom tank is and the frogs croaking all night long kept me from sleeping. Must have been the mating season... :scared:

Patrick's Jungle

If that's not where he should look you can easily drag the markers to location then click "Create Link" at the top of the page. Satellite view might be handy too ( right click on the map and select "Sat" )

Ok I moved the bottom marker up and to the right and labeled it "This is the place"

If that does not work I will try again...

Ok, looks good but I probably should have moved that marker up a little.
Hike to that drainage from the north side to gain easy access to the first two tanks.
Thanks Joe...

@SuperstitionGuy
That spot looks a lot better. I'll throw the coordinates on my GPS and try to get some pictures for you! Just the two tanks?
