Hikes in flagstaff (NAU area)

Post by Borknagar »

I am looking for a really good hike not too far from NAU, as I live here! I am looking for a hike with big rocks and a decent length.
Any hikes close (within 5 miles) from NAU is what I am looking for. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

PS! Please don't just list hikes, give me a little info about them if you've got the time :)

Here's a few close to town that are nice and have some "big rocks". Your "5 mile" limit may not be big enough to get you to the "big rocks". You can read about them in the hike descriptions.

PS The TrailDex and MapDex features (links at the top of the home page) are great for finding hikes.

This ones pretty fun, short hike but leaves plenty of energy to play at the destination. The hike descriptions can tell you more

I think you'll find that "discovery" is half (or maybe 90%?) of the fun! The hikes here all have good descriptions, directions to get there, distance, difficulty etc. read as much as it takes to peak your interest then go for it! :y:

The best "big rocks" near there are in Sedona. But I just looked, and Mountain Line doesn't go there, it seems. But you can take the Rt. 66 bus over to the east side to do Fatman's and Elden Lookout. Just get off by the McDonald's that is by the east side Safeway, just past the Mall. You can also take the bus to near Buffalo Park, and start a hike there. You can hike up to Dry Lake Hills from there.

Is there any snow in Flagstaff right now? I've had a momentary bout of homesickness, but it will pass...

Each of these links provides "a little info" about the hikes, and if you select the "triplog" tab at the top of each hike description page you will find dozens of entries from numerous different users who have added comments and descriptions of each. Feel free to take the time to read all of them.

Additionally, you may choose to view the photosets to get a better visual feel for a hike, as well as read any of the comments that users contribute to the photos.

And if you decide to hike any of them, please add your own triplog and/or photos so that others may learn from your experiences.
