Arizona Hiking...

Post by imike »

This is why you shouldn't go looking for the golf balls hit 'Out of Bounds' in Arizona !!!

...alas... looks as if the pictures did not copy... It was a very large snake!!

THIS IS NOT A PYTHON!

This is a 15 foot Western Diamondback
rattlesnake - the largest ever caught on record,

This snake was found Near the St. Augustine
outlet, in a new KB homes subdivision just south of
Mesa Az.

A little research revealed the following:

One bite from a snake of this sizewould contain enough venom to
kill over 40 full grown men.

The head of this snake alone is larger than the hand of a
normal sized man.

A bite from those fangs would be comparable to being stabbed
by two curved, 1/4 inch diameter screwdrivers.

The knife being used to draw out the fangs for the bottom
picture has a blade around 6 inche long.

This snake is estimated to have weighed over 170 pounds.
(How much do you weigh?)

Notice the girth of this snake as compared to the cop's
leg in the first picture (and he is not a small man).

A snake of this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old
child and dogs, pigs, etc).

A snake this size has an approximately 5 1/2 foot
accurate striking distance.
(The distance for an average size rattlesnake
is about 2 feet . )

From what I have read, the snake in reality was a bit under 8 feet, weighing under 70#.

That snake (and several photos like it) has ended up in several different backgrounds and photos all over the internet. Different places and different specs each time. Kinda like the infamous"Giant alligator" from Texas, Georgia, Florida, even Virginia (think not.)
We sure have some REALLY big rattlers in the southeast, but growing up where the Easterns live and seeing some big ones, I can confidently say that a 15 foot rattlesnake does not exist. If, as such the case of bigfoot, nessy, chupacabra, werewolves, a productive politician, etc., a specimen is found and documented, other than a still pic or fuzzy video, I will be less skeptical. Now, swamplights, I am on board there! :scared:

@hikeaz knock off another 25% for continued embellishment and it's believable

ten foot pole with 70 pounds at the end...
must be a composite that looks like hollow aluminum or it would snap

Hmmm... :-k maybe St Augustine Florida??
Look closer at the photo link hikeaz posted above and you'll notice a KB Homes sign.
Could it be one huge snake stretching from FL to AZ? Like fishing stories, it gets larger with every telling.

... online research puts it just a bit over 7'... from Florida. Nice to know that a 12' Texas gar can still eat any rattler out there!

Building homes in Florence (AZ Farms rd and Felix) we found one that measured approx. 8 foot. Game and fish came and got him and took him to Tucson. One of the guys said it was the biggest he's seen in 20+ years.
