There were news stories about some finds a several weeks ago, this looks like a new one.

Very interesting. I wondered about this part though:
... could date back to as much as 1,000 years
. Would that be consistent with the styles they found?

We could ask Al Hikes Az. Wasn't he around then? :sl:

It doesn't look like the same pieces found in July and the painted rim looks like Casa Grandes style.
Certainly not pre Baja Pima.
The unpainted olla shape wise can be any group from Tarahumara to Tohono.
My guess is more Proto-Historic time period, so this should be interesting what they find out.

Looks like red on buff geo morf design in the one picture, plain ware in the other.

I just realized one can click on the photo and get a better image.
So I'm gonna nix Casa Grandes because the rim piece is iron oxide on buff.
The location is pushing the southern edge of the Hohokam, so I'm leaning toward Tohono or Akimel O'odham.
