Hope this isn't a repost

Re: Ancient Pottery find in Patagonia Mtns
There were news stories about some finds a several weeks ago, this looks like a new one.

Very interesting. I wondered about this part though:
. Would that be consistent with the styles they found?... could date back to as much as 1,000 years

We could ask Al Hikes Az. Wasn't he around then?big_load wrote:Very interesting. I wondered about this part though:. Would that be consistent with the styles they found?... could date back to as much as 1,000 years

It doesn't look like the same pieces found in July and the painted rim looks like Casa Grandes style.
Certainly not pre Baja Pima.
The unpainted olla shape wise can be any group from Tarahumara to Tohono.
My guess is more Proto-Historic time period, so this should be interesting what they find out.

Looks like red on buff geo morf design in the one picture, plain ware in the other.

OK, I feel a little better. My gut reaction was they were a couple hundred years off.Alston Neal wrote:My guess is more Proto-Historic time period, so this should be interesting what they find out.

I just realized one can click on the photo and get a better image.
So I'm gonna nix Casa Grandes because the rim piece is iron oxide on buff.
The location is pushing the southern edge of the Hohokam, so I'm leaning toward Tohono or Akimel O'odham.
