2013 Map CD

Post by trekker »

I have sent the ATA a query about this problem also. I have the 2011 and 2012 CDs; all my maps have been printed for over a year, and I don't want to reprint the whole set or have to do a visual comparison for well over a hundred maps. Most of the maps won't have been changed, so is there a list somewhere of the maps that actually were changed?

The only person who publishes a list of year to year changes is Jonathan Ley on his CDT ROM, and he didn't get it done for 2013 for some reason. I managed to make a visual comparison for the 800 miles I have left, but it took a couple of hours.

Actually, due to the automated map creation process, almost all of the maps as well as their bounds are somewhat different and you can't just mix and match from the two products, this year's vs last year's. For one, the mileages have changed based on the current official Mexico to Utah distance of 800.0 miles. This change alone affects a majority of maps. Then there are extensive edits to the data book which are reflected on the maps as POI's. The ATA does maintain a list of changes to the official data book, but I don't keep track of that when creating the map set since it's moot; when Postholer runs the maps each year, the process is not a surgical strike but a complete do-over from border to border. This is the price for getting a yearly update in this case.
