Somewhere, 11/16 - ???
I haven't picked a spot yet, but I thought I'd get this out there. I'll be wheels down in PHX on Friday night (11/15) and don't have to be out until Tuesday night (11/19). I might break it into a couple trips, at least one in the Supes.

Hey just a heads up, Trap is bone dry..you will probably have to go past the large caves to get water..spring is dry as well..very dry everywhere, below is picture of our water options in Trap, and that was after pre-filtering, that was every drop out of a little rock crevice, had to make trek back to La Barge for water, dry camped for three days..sigh..big_load wrote:I'm thinking of stopping in Trap Canyon Saturday night and winding up at Charelbois Sunday night. My big goal for Sunday is not missing the petroglyphs.Dave1 wrote:@big_load

petraglyphs are easy to miss...had a similar experience, took me like five times!..too easy now though intersection of Dutchman and Peter's Trail..simply step off trail head generally west towards La Barge Creek down somewhat steep bank, pretty much a trail these days, you will literally come out probably on top of rock ledge that has glphys, at creek level, will be an old forest service sign post there and everything..alternatively, after La Barge Springs as soon as you cross La Barge Creek for first time, the kind of long sand crossing..count out 75 paces and look to your right you will see another less-known, less impressive petraglph right off trail, and about 75 paces before nice campsite under trees, I am sure you know the place...

Thanks for the info. I figured Trap could be dry, so I plan to start with enough water to reach LaBarge.friendofThundergod wrote:Hey just a heads up, Trap is bone dry..you will probably have to go past the large caves to get water..spring is dry as well..very dry everywhere, below is picture of our water options in Trap, and that was after pre-filtering, that was every drop out of a little rock crevice, had to make trek back to La Barge for water, dry camped for three days..sigh..

@big_load
I figured you had it covered, easy to dry camp when rolling solo, I had dogs and was out for three days, so had to make a couple of runs to La Barge and back.. I was a little surprised to see spring dry myself, usually pretty reliable..

relieved to hear you are not really a squirrel, stalked your photo-set to see if you were same person from Reavis, but had no luck...

The 2013 Leonid meteor shower is expected to be visible from Nov. 16 through Nov. 18. Weather permitting, observers around the world should be able to see the brightest "Leonids" streak across the sky from Saturday night through Sunday morning.
and 20% chance of rainish on Sat...but I dont know about seeing shower, maybe not right area to view, too much moon, to far south..??

Re Somewhere 11/16 -
Full moon will make it hard to see except really bright ones... and location has no bearing on it... but the clouds and so forth will... there is a good chance of clouds in most of AZ this weekend...

I just looked at the Weather and it's 20% Chance Saturday morning only....Calling for clear skies the rest of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, at least in the Superstition Foothills....

I'm packed, fueled up, and ready for a few hours of sleep. I hope we catch everybody on Sat/Sun who will be in the area.
