Anniversary of the Powers Shootout
2/10/2018 is the 100 year anniversary of the Powers Shootout at the Powers Cabin in the now Galiuro Wilderness in Southern Arizona. Was planning on a trip his weekend but could not make it.

Re: Anniversary of the Powers Shootout
@Nighthiker
I hadn't thought about the anniversary coming up. I think about the shooting and related activities before and after whenever I'm out there. I've been to the Garden quite a few times, the Shootout Cabin three times, and once to Holdout Spring, and I've done those trips from the north and the south (Ash Creek TH). I still feel that I lack the right perspective because backpacking it is a lot different than travel by horse.

Re: Anniversary of the Powers Shootout
I came across another book on the shootout-- The Power Affair by Zeke Crandall. Has anyone read it?

Re: Anniversary of the Powers Shootout
I’ve wanted to get out that way and hike to the cabin and garden. My great grandmother was a sister to “Old Man” Jeff.

Re: Anniversary of the Powers Shootout
@Tough_Boots I just finished a fictionalized account called ‘With Blood in their Eyes’ by Thomas Cobb. I’ll have to check out the book you mentioned. Thanks!

Re: Anniversary of the Powers Shootout
asunow.asu.edu has an article about the incident, Shots fired in1918 Arizona still resonate. Another book will be available in May, Arizona's Deadliest Gunfight by Heidi Osselaer.
