I keep seeing comments on HAZ member photos to this effect and I'm wondering if I'm the only person who finds this practice to be unseemly?
If a member posts a photo on HAZ and wants to share their photo on Twittertok, Instabook or whatever else, wouldn't they do it themselves?
Short of somebody posting a photo on social media with hashtags clearly seeking further attention and to promote their own photography (#beon12) ... is it appropriate for a person to share somebody else's art? Are photos posted on HAZ "free to use" to download and share far and wide by whoever, whenever they want?
Maybe there are polite and courteous PMs in the background that ask for permission to do this first?
In this, the information revolution, perhaps my old skool concept of content ownership is no longer relevant?

I know once I post photos I consider them out of my control at that point. That is why I post a lot more carefully now; and quite a few of my photos do not see the interwebs. A sunrise or set, an interesting rock, critters, cool. Other things, uh, not so much.
I do share other's photos on that Face account occasionally, but it's just to get a Fauna ID and I try to ask first. I agree with you though Todd although I understand that once I put up a Photo on the Internet, I'm taking a chance of where that Photo ends up and what is done with it after it gets there. It's just the way it is anymore. I belong to Face and Insta and View, but that's it. No Twit, Link, Pin or anything else. If I wanted to share my photos on anything else, I would join those particular sites. I just appreciate that if someone else does, they at least ask first, which isn't always the case.

Not everybody who does it also feels the need to also announce it with a comment . I think it's a subject that goes far beyond one user and might be relevant to how other people think and share. It's 2020. Like I said, perhaps I'm just old fashioned. Maybe it's encouraged? Does HAZ still have the social sharing buttons on specific pages? I don't see them today, but I've seen them before.
edit: I do see the + share button on mobile.

@DarthStiller Guilty! March was a long time ago. 2013 was another lifetime! But seriously, I do see a difference between sharing a photo as part of a discussion or to explain something here on HAZ. As Pam pointed out though it may make sense when researching an animal or flower and trying to cast a wider net. (Maybe I should ask Twitter about the VV triangles!? Bruce - I'm stealing your photos! )
FWIW, I've always appreciated that you share your own HAZ posts on the socials. I bet your non-hiking friends (and presumably non-haz members) enjoy the ability to see your adventures without you having to double up and post there too.

@chumley
I've always considered HAZ to be another social media platform (actually, one of the very first). Because we're such a small community, it doesn't seem like it or have that far reaching effect. I've always thought that once I post something here, it's fair game to be shared.

Ukulele brings profanity only to the listener, not the player! As for a 12-string guitar, one must have fingers of iron. Those are definitely curse-worthy. If you come on one of my kayak trips you'll be subjected to ukulele music. It's a good way to keep the group small.

Did you ever open any of the guitar music files I sent you? You'll notice I didn't sing on any of them. People tend to get emotional when I sing. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
