10th Annual New Year's Day Peak Bag
It's almost time to ring in a New Year! I don't know about you guys, but I'm seriously ready for this one to be over. The Hike this time around is going to be pretty easy, but there will be lots of room up top for a party, and you can't beat the views of Canyon Lake! There is a social trail on this hike, but it is certainly not an official, maintained trail, so keep that in mind. Check out the Description for more information. Parking for this one could get fairly creative, but I think we'll be ok.
Even though we will be leaving 2020 behind, we are not leaving a virus behind. It's kicking people's ass right now and will be through the holidays I fear. So this year is going to be a little different. I'm limiting the participants this year to 10. I'm limiting the amount of "guests" to 1 per HAZer. No Harem this year Terry, I'm sorry. If you are signing up and bringing a guest, please let me know right away.
While this is an outside event, I ask that everyone coming please bring a mask with you. I won't make you wear it hiking, but depending on the weather, I may ask that you wear it at the bottom and at the top if social distancing just isn't happening. And I shouldn't have to say it, but I will. If you are experiencing any kind of symptoms, please stay home. Some members may be high risk or live with someone who is high risk so I would like to take every precaution to make this event as "safe" as possible. Please help me achieve that. I will be doing things a little bit differently as far as treats go this year just to help keep things safer.
If you see 10 people on the "Going" List or I post that it's full, use the "Interested" Column for a wait list. You will be notified in order if a slot becomes available.
I look forward to seeing some old and new friends this year. Let's show 2020 the door and celebrate a New Year!

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Looks like a great hike but Regina is still having foot issues so we'll have to sit this one out. She'll use it as motivation to keep up the therapy.

I know how frustrating it's been for her and I hope that her foot problems can be resolved. I'll be thinking about you guys!

Start Time will be 9:30 A.M. I'll let you all sleep an extra 30 minutes this year due to location and distance of Hike. Start will be at the Location of the Official Route. The Junction of Apache Trail and the turnoff for the SRP Dam Housing. Roughly 1/4 mile down the hill from the Canyon Lake Overlook Parking Lot.

Re: 10th Annual New Year's Day Peak Bag
That may be but I plan on going out to the site a few days before to see if I can make the climb to the top. Maybe today if the weather cooperates as my family that has gathered for the holidays are going golfing. I can't swing a club due to an injury I received when I was 14 years old however it has never stopped me from carrying a backpack. I now use what I call "sticks" to hike, they are like crutches but only come up to below my elbows enclosing my arms and they allow me to put weight on my hands, wrists, and arms instead of on my knees. They give me more control as well as opposed to the normal crutches.rayhuston wrote:The cookies and chocolate strawberries are worth the effort!

Re: 10th Annual New Year's Day Peak Bag
I mentioned to Pam about doing some more hiking after the main hike. [ Route Editor ] This is part of the route Joe and Bruce did to just above the river and then to Horns of Dilemma. I used adilling's route for the trek back to the TH from the Horns but you all might know a better route back. Anyway, I think it looks like a nice trek to tack onto the Massif hike if anyone is interested.

@SuperstitionGuy Hope you can make it. We met several years ago before a “Flatiron Arrow Removal” event. I’d love to hear some of your hiking experiences.

Looks like I won't have time to do all of the extra hike you were considering - maybe just the 1.6 mi hike up to the Horns of Dilemma and back. Following the part of Bruce and Joe's track up and down 2 creek beds can be slow going.

@Oregon_Hiker
I think Angela's thinking that too. Just an Out and Back to the Horns. If I'm up to it, I'll go with as well.
