Bagging all 4 "Four Peaks"

Post by AK »

Just curious if anyone here or anyone you know has ever bagged all 4 of the Four Peaks. Its something I'm thinking of attempting possibly next spring.

I know that Joe wants to do this, if he hasnt already.

Why wait til spring?

I thought that spring would be a good target date because I want to scout the trails on the backside to get an idea of what is at hand before I commit myself to the full hike. Besides, I don't know if this could be done in one day, and I don't want to sleep outside at 6000 feet this time of year. :o

Sounds like a lot of fun though aye Pete?

I've always wanted to do this also. I've heard though that some of the peaks are unnatainable due to chain-link put up by the mining company.

Well theres only one way to find out Matt! : rambo : As far as the chain link goes, I doubt it. I've been up to the mine a couple of times and don't see a reason to put it up that high do to the steepness of the peaks. But then again you never know.

Several boy scout troups in the past have done it, and I went across and back, not difficult, and it did not take long.

AK, from the summit of Browns Peak, across the other three and return the same way, took 1:35. Total time from trailhead was 3:05. Easy climbing, IF, the right routes are found. If you are agile, like a boy scout, you should have no trouble.

The peaks are close together and involve only a few hundred feet of climbing for each one. If one can climb Browns Peak, one can do the others nearly as easily.

Thanks for the info Sid. But I'll try it at a more leisurely pace instead of 1 hour.

AK, I've been to Brown's peak and the peak next to it. I'd like to hit the other two sometime. I'd be up for this hike.

Syd, did you stay pretty much on the ridgeline to travel the peaks? Also, are there visitor logs on peaks 3 and 4?

I'm interested also if anyone wants company. Any dates set?

I really hadn't set any kind of date yet. I was thinking of making it a loop of sorts. Lone Pine Saddle - Browns Peak - Peaks 2 3 4 - Alder Saddle - Alder Trail #81 - Four Peaks Trail #130 (on the backside) back to starting point. Should be do-able in a day, although I don't know the condition of some of these trails on the backside. I heard that there is a forest service crew up there clearing blowdowns and doing general maintainance to the trails on the backside.
Like I said I haven't decided when to do it, but you guys are welcome to come. I guess I should get motivated before it snows up there.

I would love to do this too, bad part is I usually only have 1 weekend off a month.
How much snow do they generally get up there.
It might be fun to snowboard down.

I'm not sure on the exact amount but in the past I've tried to get up there after a good storm and the road was nearly impassable. Usually after a storm the snow will melt off after a few days. With the exception of the slot on Browns and other patches.

Pete, you bring your snowboard and I'll bring mine and we'll have a race to the bottom! : rambo : Of coarse I really hope that other people will go now so they can call for the rescue helo. :pois: And when is your 1 weekend a month?

Hey Guys, if you are looking for some people to go i would be all for it. I could probably rangle up a few friends to join also. Never been up to the four peaks, but would love to hit them all.

Well if I put together a group to do this your welcome to tag along. The thing is is that I like small groups. 4-6 people. Cuts down on the constant stop and go that you get with larger groups.

I have off the weekend of the 20th
I mean my schedule is made out thru the 20th.
I am only assuming I have the 21st off, but, if we go the 20th, that would be really kewl.
Maybe I will just bring a tobaggon instead and we can all ride it together, for better or worse.
I will go snow or not.
Would also like to do humphries this winter.
