Grandview Trail Closed Until Summer

Post by SedonaHiker »

Just got a call from the Backcountry Office at GCNP and the Grandview Trail has washed out near the top. They have imposed a hard closure and anticipate it will be a few months (!) before repairs are complete.

Soon (assuming site performance recovers) I plan to post photos from a mid-February hike on this trail (just a couple weeks before closure). This is a FABULOUS HIKE and should be on every Grand Canyon hiker's to-do list.

Say What?

OK. Are you saying the Grandview Trail is NOW closed? Or GOING to be closed? I got a little lost in reading you post. It sounds like you are going to hike it whether or not it is "officially" closed. You could get a costly ticket. You know?

Well, so what exactly are you saying is the current status of the trail right now, at this March 15 PM moment in time? Closed? Open? Whatever?

The Grandview Trail is one of THE BEST DAY HIKES on The South Rim of The Grand Canyon. Bar NONE!

You DO NOT have to don a backpack weighing a ga-zillion pounds to enjoy The Grandview Trail. Nope. You can simply put on a day pack or just even hand carry a water bottle or two down this trail. It doesn't matter how far you go--each and every single step of this trail is steeped in history and mystique. And believe me, it's "steeped!"

But the "steeped" factor is part of its mystique. This is one of the greatest all-time historical trails ANYWHERE. The guy who built this trail would probably be certifiably NUTS today. A nutso dreamer. It would be hard to believe he could have EVER floated an IPO for his "project." But he was an obstinate cuss and he got a LOT of attention for what he did.

Pete Berry's the Name--The Grandview Trail's The Game.

Frankly, I don't care if you hike one hundred yards or all the way to the bottom. Once you get your feet on that trail, history COMES ALIVE!

Enjoy,

See my recent triplog for Grandview Trail.

We did this hike two weeks before the rockslide that forced the closure.

It is now HARD CLOSED and won't be open until summer.

We changed our backcountry permit as a result and will be going down South Kaibab to Cremation and Grapevine use areas.
