Havasu Falls Question

I always look at everyones nice photos from Havasu, I never see any pictures of anyone swimming. Can you swim down there?

I've seen pictures of people swimming. However, the water was pretty darn cold when I was there (late November).

One of the guys I work with was there this time last year and he had a ton of pictures of people swimming. The problem, he said, was how many people there were down there, apparently parking at the top and camping at the bottom were at a premium. I've heard that from a couple people now. It's kind of what keeps me from going. Although I've thought about going over christmas and bringing a drysuit...

I'm going to try and go Mid September, I'm hoping school will be back in session and there will be less people.

The swimming at Havasupai is great, but sometimes it's a little cold. I was there about 6 weeks ago, first weekend in April. I had been there a number of times before. This time the water was chillier than before, and I was just getting over a very bad cough, so I didn't go in as much, but everyone in my group did, and they all said they got used to it. We swam below Mooney Falls about 1/4 mile, some nice deep pools. We swam at Navajo Falls. And of course, we also swam at Havasu Falls. Many people hike down to Beaver Falls to swim, and I have done that a couple times and have hiked to the Colorado River and there are some nice pools in Havasu Creek that are very close to the river. (That is an all-day hike from your campsite--7 a.m to 5 p.m.) There is a rope on a tree below Mooney and I think still one at Beaver Falls, too.

It is better to go there in early to mid May, but it is very crowded. However, they limit it to 300 people a day, and it's a very large campground. Even though it's not really a wilderness experience I really love the place and keep on going back. It's a bit of an addiction!
