Anyway, this will be about 8 miles RT and the elevation changes are in the 400-500' range each way. Should be light enough to do in the heat. Early start time again of 5:30am to beat the heat.

This is the trail from the Barnhardt TH that goes north about 4 miles to the Rock Creek TH (how many Rock Creek THs and Rock Creeks are there in AZ? Don't answer that.

Re: Half Moon Trail Sun., June 22.
Change it to saturday the 21st and Im in. Otherwise I am unavailable on Sundays so I wont be able to go on these cool trips to the lesser known trails. Which is a real bummer.

I'm not available on Saturdays because my wife works those days while I watch the kids. If something changes, I'll let everyone know and post it. Otherwise, sorry.

I should be able to go either day (Sat/Sun). I'm sure it will be hot both days.

Re: Half Moon Trail Sun., June 22.
I was checking the map on this and the last almost mile of it parallels FR422, which is listed as an ever lovable "4WD" road. This being the case, once we get to the Rock Creek TH, I would like to walk down FR422 a bit to check it out and see how it compares to our recent experience with FR1704. The Half Moon Trail seems to be so close to the road that it would be a bushwhack of a few hundred feet at the closest point. Depending on the heat (and time), maybe we can even explore and extra half mile or so down FR422 to see. I'm interested in doing this because there are a few shuttle hikes that are doable between the Rock Creek and Barnhardt THs that I would like to try in the next year or so.
