Azcentral and the Republic will publish my "Favorite Hike"

Post by Dano »

Hi gang. I just got an e-mail from the Arizona Republic; this Friday they'll publish my article in the Explorer section of the paper, and on AzCentral.

Reader hike: Freedom Trail

Reader hike: Freedom Trail
Daniel Goodrich of Tempe recommends this hike:

"My favorite hike is the Freedom Trail, also known as Trail 302 or the Piestewa Peak Circumference Trail, in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. It is a tough, 3.75-mile hike with two heart-pumping uphill stretches.

"There are many reasons why I keep going back to this hike. It is easy to get to, even when the nearby Piestewa Peak Trail is full. It is a loop trail with shade on the west side, even on summer mornings.

"Once I get over the first saddle just north of the peak, there is instant solitude among the saguaros and ocotillo that make the Sonoran Desert beautiful. Then it's one more tough uphill push and back down a portion of the peak trail."

Hey, that's neat! Will they make it worth your while? Such as, a check in the mail?

I just wrote another one for White Mtn. Outdoors Magazine. One of these days I'm going to submit an article to a different rag, see what happens.

That is a fun trail. I've only done it once, but it was probably the prettiest hike I've done so far in The Valley (not that I've done many).
