Weatherford Trail - backpack camp sites?

Post by Randal_Schulhauser »

Thinking about doing an overnighter along the Weatherford Trail with an early morning dash from a "high altitude camp" to Humphrey's Summit. The HAZ hike description indicates;

If you choose to make this an overnight backpacking trip, and I hope you do, there is no camping allowed on the Weatherford between Doyle and Fremont Saddles. You can camp just before Doyle Saddle or just past Fremont Saddle.

I'm curious to hear from anyone that's camped at either of these sites and which is preferred?

Thanks! :)

Probably depends upon the weather Randal, that site after Fremont is very exposed to the wind and elements.

I've camped on Doyle saddle, it's not a bad place. You can find camp sites and fire rings if you go just up the hill from Doyle saddle on the S. side.

Ended up setting up camp near the fringes of Doyle Saddle in a makeshift corral/windbreak.

Took advantage of the stone "fireplace" to make a small campfire. Thanks for the tips... :D

My wife and I camped in that wind break along with another couple. Close quarters with 2 tents but still a great place. The wind was howling but as soon as the sun went down it got very still and quite. Great weather and a great view :bigth:
