Richinbar Mine Ruins - Agua Fria National Monument
I thought I'd share with HAZ Forum participants one of the background articles I found researching the Hike Description. I found this a most interesting interview. Even more interesting when you try to match up some of Nita's memories to the landmarks when visiting the site...

Bravo Randal, great write-up. I love the history you find.
Sometime about 1998 give or take, this property was offered for sale to the BLM and we looked at it. It is fascinating. I always meant to get back for a better look, you beat me to it.

I've looked at that mine for years from Pato Pueblo, now I know I have to go there.
Great photos, plus the historical pics were a wonderful treat.

RANDAL,
ARE YOU SURE IT IS LEGIT TO BE IN THAT AREA? LOCKED GATES AND FENCES USUALLY MEAN KEEP OUT?

I interpret the lock to be a discouragement to vehicular traffic and encouragement to pedestrian traffic. Note the "Please Close the Gate" sign with the National Monument marker immediately behind the gate (no KEEP OUT signs, TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT signs, etc). Maps all indicate this as National Monument land and not some restricted legacy area. Enjoy!

Re: Richinbar Mine Ruins - Agua Fria National Monument
Thank you very much for posting this! We hiked this on 11/16/10 and found the other pueblo with intact rooms and tons of pottery shards! We took lots of pictures and are comparing with what is posted...We found 5 mine shafts! Very cool exploring this site although i kept thinking of the contamination to the Aqua Fria from all the waste that was basically just dumped down the hill...

Check out apcrp.org (arizona pioneer cemetery restoration project). A lot of interesting info.
