I'm impressed by the 1st Place winner, and like the use of black and white. All this from an 18 year old! Second place--not so impressed. 3rd place--I can see why AZ Highways liked it. Loved the back cover. I really want to do that hike this fall.
I just got my issue. I didn't think my photo would make the final cut anyway, but it's still upsetting. Oh well, there's always next year. Congrats to Chikku for winning the grand prize!!! I don't know you, but i've seen your work here, and other places, and i'd like to shoot with you sometime (if you ever read this). I thought I was young (20) for being a finalist, but holy cow! 18!!! Congratulations!
Keep at it Trent, there's no going wrong with honest determination.
I was holding back my thoughts to get some honest opinions... I didn't think anyone would make the connection but you nailed it, it's Chikku Baiju! Congratulations Chikku, that's a well deserved honor taking that contest!
Check out Chikku's other photos, some mighty impressive and what I call clean shots!
I probably wouldn't have realized it was him, since he's only posted a few photos here (they're all great by the way), but that name is easily recognizable. And thanks Joe, I plan on photographing the land until I can't walk anymore
So how did I miss the photo contest this year? I never saw anything about it online, such as where to submit...not that anything I've produced prior to this month would have been worth entering. Anyway, I'm super-stoked on Chikku and Trent. Definitely well-deserved! Good job guys!
Maybe I should submit one of my Humphrey via the Dutchman pics for the next year. I doubt the readers of that publication would think my pics from up there were from Arizona. A number of pics from my January evening hike would be the ones. http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=119931
Me want more press.

But Jim, I thought you were steadfastly against "artsy" pictures?
I am against art for art's sake. Art should have utility in it. That thing was never artsy, it was a "this is what I saw while living" picture. It is precisely the sort of image Arizona Highways should publish, because it looks good and it is something that could be done in Arizona, not that most people ever would do that despite the ease of such an outing.

I don't think that there's too many people who agree with your opinion of "ease of such an outing". But then again, I think that's part what makes it worthy of being published.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

So aside from fotogirl53's comment no one here reviews Arizona Highways?
