Anyone interested in Whitney in a day shot? Leave early, summit and descend same day. The High Sierra Snow is AOK. MR route, camp in the Alabama Hills and eat in town. Bring a stove to make water, or pull from LBSL. Lots of food and the usual stuff. Afterward, head to the Valley of Death. The NP, that is.

It's fast, light and more direct. Totally doable. We did it in 2 in 2009 and while taking our time, made a high camp pretty early.

Re: Whitney MR
Leaving tomorrow to hike this Sunday. I used a google measurement tool and came up with 13.5 miles round trip when starting at the bottom of the switchbacks on the road, which is really not bad at all. It's mostly the snow and altitude that will make it hard. As always, 2/3 of the time is up hill and 1/3 is down, in snow. It looks like it will be 8000' in a day.
