Redington Fire

Post by azdesertfather »

There is a fire east of Tucson, hopefully they get it under control today. The Arizona Trail does cross Redingon, so if it grows it may close it...It hasn't shown up on inciweb yet.

Firefighting reduces size of Redington Fire east of Tucson

June 14, 2012 9:59 am  •  Doug Kreutz Arizona Daily Star
Firefighters battled an 18-acre wildfire Thursday near milepost 4 on the Redington Pass Road east of Tucson.

By the afternoon, the fire had been reduced about 8 acres, after crews hit it hard, said Heidi Schewel, spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service.

One helicopter, three engines and two crews, including a Hotshot crew, fought the fire, Schewel said. She said approximately 50 firefighters were involved in the effort this morning.

Schewel said the fire, which broke out Thursday morning and is called the Redington Fire, was burning in an area with extremely dry grass and brush.

“It’s got to be human-caused because there was no lightning in the area,” she said.
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." — Henry David Thoreau
