I have recently become a segment steward for the Gila River Canyons passage and I am having a 2-day remote work event to put a gate in Walnut Canyon and a small reroute.
When: December 7 & 8, 2012, time to be announced, probably mid-morning. It’s ~90 minutes to the work site from Highway 177. We will be camping near the Gila.
Accommodations: Bring your own camping gear and food; there are suitable camp sites nearby. There may or may not be water in the Gila River for filtering; BLM is bringing cubies of water for the concrete mix that can be filtered as well.
TASKS:
1) Install a steel gate in the allotment fence on the west side of Walnut Canyon. BLM will bring an ATV-mounted auger and jackhammer.
2) Install a steel ATV pinch-point and 80 feet of steel ATV barrier in the unnamed canyon approximately one mile east of Walnut Canyon.
3) Clear corridor and construct tread for ~100 yards to short cut the sharp inverted “V” in the ATA route in the unnamed canyon.
Anyone interested will have to fill out BLM paperwork beforehand. Please let me know if you will be coming to the event by December 3rd.
