Did anyone watch the History Channel about the Dutchman last night, and where do you think they were? ;)

Southeast of the actual Wilderness but a few of the shots were from Apache Trail. :sl:

My neighbor is going to record each episode so I can watch it whenever I have the time. I am considering it just a comedy show and am only interested in where they are filming it. I doubt that you will see any close ups actually within the wilderness. Permits would be required and many regulations would have to be followed which I do not think the producers are willing to except the cost for. We shall see over time however.....

Interesting but totally unrealistic. Why would you go out there looking for it in the middle of summer.

Also I saw on the map they were reading they were out by Hewitt Canyon. The former cop is annoying as hell, very arrogant.

Wasn't summer obviously because of the tarantula they filmed unless of course they staged that shot by bringing out a tarantula from the spider shop at Gold Field.... I would guess early October....

Yeah it could be early fall, but they were describing temps of 105 and above so it was still the wrong time to be out there.

Each episode is scripted of course so do not necessarily believe it.

And it can be over 100 degrees in early October....

The West's most deadly myth. I wonder how many people have died looking for it. And if it wasn't a myth, and someone has found it, why on Earth would they tell anyone? I sure wouldn't.

Yes I know it's scripted and I've lived in AZ and hiked the Superstitions for over 14 years now so I'm obviously very aware it can be over 100+ degrees in Oct.

Regardless if it is Oct or July, searching for a legendary mine in those temperatures is just plain stupid and irresponsible, just ask the 3 dead dudes from Utah who were COMPLETELY ill prepared for that activity in the middle of July.

OK, no fighting... :)

Someone should be able to identify the 'butte' that they are using as a 'guidepost', although that looks more like a 'spire' or 'needle' than a 'butte' to me...

And no I'm not asking so that I can 'go there', consider it a morbid curiosity.

It could be Byous Butte, but he points directly at Hackberry Butte on the map in the show. Could be either though as they are very close.

It also marks his buddies existing gold claim around what looks like just south of Byous Butte.

@pixelfrog I thought pretty much the same thing... Byous Butte/Hackberry Butte area.

While I watched the episode out of curiosity, it comes across pretty hokey... 99% BS and 1% truth.
:M2C:
But then to be fair, it is just a TV show... for entertainment value lone, I sure got a kick out of stuff like:
Better get your snake gaiters on...
You gotta watch your back out here...
and of best of all...
At the X we will find the Dutchman's mine, I guarantee it!
(Which reminds me of a Men's Wearhouse ad... I guarantee it!)

Jason, you should have asked what their handles are on HAZ.... They most likely have signed up and peruse the site from time to time... Just sayin...
