PHOENIX — A hiker who went missing on a Phoenix-area mountain was found dead Friday, police said.
A 48-year-old woman was hiking with a group of people in South Mountain Park when she struck out ahead of them on the trail.

In these urban circumstances, dehydration is generally not the fatal factor, it is heat stroke. A good coverage hat, (or an umbrella) helps reduce body temperature dramatically. I prefer cotton shirts for summer desert hiking (unless it's muggy like today) - the evap helps cool ones body down.
