Just want to confirm camping at or close to the trail-head is not an issue. Also, about how far of a drive from the TH to the nice campsites along the rim at Toroweap?

Camping in the Trumbull area was good back in 2012. The primary roads in the area are good, but once you get into GCNP they deteriorate quickly. Driving all the way to the Tuweep Campground requires a permit and high clearance, winter and spring can be impassable http://www.nps.gov/grc...
