Had planned a backpacking trip with the kids to Battleship Mountain this weekend, but the forecast now has it in the 90s out there.
Any recommendations for Sedona or surrounding area? Figure I can get down into the 80s by going up there.
Not Sedona, but a little higher elevations in the Supes will provide more pleasant weather. Both Reavis Ranch and Tony's Ranch (Haunted Canyon) are forecast with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.
Thanks Chumley. How accessible is the TH for 109N in a normal car? I know 88 can be done fine, but what is the condition of the side road?
Looks like a nice spot.
For Sedona, I'd recommend Secret Canyon. Hike in and camp at the perfect campsite above the falls ~5 miles in. Not as challenging as Battleship, but a great trip nonetheless. I believe you can get to the top of Secret Mountain via some sketchy albeit non-technical canyoneering in Secret Canyon above the end of the trail. That could add some pizzazz.

Most cars can make it in normal conditions. It's not graded but it's eroded desert rather than rocky and the eroded bumps are generally easy enough for a sedan to maneuver over just fine.

Ended up going to Secret Canyon. Thank you so much for suggesting it. It offers some of the coolest campsite locations I have ever come across. Will definately check out Reavis Ranch in the future as it also looks like a pretty cool location.
