Common Names: Chihuahua Pine, Yellow Pine
Habitat: pine and oak woodlands in the mountains of central and southeastern Arizona
Cones: 1.5 to 3 inches long, black to light brown, maturing after 3 years, remaining on the tree for several years after maturity
Description: 30 to 80 feet tall, 1 to 2 foot diameter trunk; thin, open spreading crown with upturned branches, resembling a ponderosa pine; 3 needles per bundle, 2.5 to 4.5 inches long, blue-green with whitish veins; bark is thick, dark brown or black, and deeply divided into broad flat ridges
Comments: it is the only native pine that can re-sprout from cut stumps
