Pinus strobus L. Common Names: Eastern White Pine
Habitat: Various sandy and well drained moist soils of the upper lakes, northeast, and New England. Range extends south along the higher terrain of, and adjacent to, the Appalachian Mountains in to Georgia and Alabama. Plated ornamentally, as far south as extreme south(west) Georgia, if you can believe it. Flowers: Yellow Pine Strobili Description: In healthy situations, a tall tree with a crown of soft pine leaves in bundles of five. Bark smooth when young, and dark and furrowed when mature. Yearly growth flushes, or whorls, strongly visible. Comments: The only white pine of the eastern US. |
