Aspidoscelis xanthonota
Habitat:South Central AZ, into Mexico. Elevations from 2000' to over 4300'. Desert Dweller, but will usually be encountered in Rockier Terrain and Canyon bottoms with Springs or other Sources of Water.
Description:Large Reddish/Brown Lizard with Orange Tint on Back that does not travel down to Sides. Body and Limbs have light Spots. The Tail is light Tan with Yellow Spots at the Base. Limbs are light Blue. Juveniles have 6 to 7 Stripes that gradually break up into Spots and more Spots also appear. Orange Coloring on Back and Blue Tint on Limbs occur as the Lizard ages. Spots on the Sides become vertical Bars. Adults lack Stripes.
Comments: Not Parthenogenetic.
