Cinnabar is mined and refined to produce mercury. Mount Ord, in the Mazatzal Mountains, is famous for its mercury deposits, which occur as cinnabar veins in Precambrian schist. Mt. Ord is also the highest point in Gila County, at 7,153 feet. Source US Forest Service Tonto National Forest Mesa District Geology Section.
