From WallyFrack on the Naming of Music Mountain
It's believed Music Mountain was named after the dog that found Adolph Ruth. On December 15,(1931) the Arizona Republic sponsored an archaeological expedition into the Superstition Mountain to locate ancient Indian ruins rumored to exist in the wild outback. Among this group were photographers from three different newspapers, an archaeologist named Odds Halseth, and Brownie Holmes as their guide. The man who donated his horses and pack animals was Richie Lewis. It was Lewis' dog, Music, who made the grizzly discovery five days into the trek. Music began to sniff and whine around an object lying beneath a tree. ![]() |
