Carpodacus Mexicanus

Common Names: House Finch
Habitat: Cities, residential areas, backyards; farms, desert, woods. Abundant in all SW, range from British Columbia to southern Mexico.
Description: 5 1/2" Male's forhead, bib and rump typically red, but can be orange or yellow. Brown streaked back and flanks. Two pale wingbars. Female streaked duskey brown on entire body.
Comments: Seed eater, fruit and leaf buds. Loud, cheerful warbling song ending in a nasal 'wheer'. Nest: female builds; two broods per year, 4-5 eggs; pale blue, lightly marked. Non-migrator to partial migrator.
