Megascops kennicottii

Common Names: Western Screech Owl
Habitat: Temperate forests, subtropical and tropical fog forests, shrubland, desert, rural fields. In deserts, they may live in cactus holes excavated by woodpeckers.
Description: 8.5" long, 20" tall, weigh 5 oz. Females are larger than males. Large feet and streaked plumage. All varities have brown (not red) or dark gray plumage with streaking on the underparts. Round head with ear tufts. Yellow eyes and yellowish bill.
