Clematis columbiana

Common Names: Rock Clematis, Western Blue Virginsbower
Habitat: foothills to lower mountains
Flowers: The nodding, blue to reddish-purple flowers are solitary on short branches from the axils of three-parted leaves. Flowers are followed by a fragile, plumed seedhead.

Description: A slender-stemmed, sometimes creeping, semi-woody perennial that may attain a length of 10-12 ft.

Comments: poisonous. The two varieties of Clematis columbiana (columbiana and tenuiloba), although strikingly dissimilar in their extremes, intergrade extensively.
