The gate was unlocked, but on the other side of the gate, after crossing through, I saw this sign that said Private Property - No Trespassing, which I thought was odd because I came from the AZ trail and there was sign or fence on the way in... By the way, this road is FS 4601. The easiest way to get from the AZT to FS 4601 is to take the road which crosses through this small piece of private property. I didn't see a single person the entire day.

Note: If you want to completely avoid private property, you can continue East on the AZ trail for another 300-400 feet. Once you are on Federal land you can do an open country hike North until you reach FS 4601.
