I guess I didn't realize how many different kind of spurs there were. Cousin Wendy and I thot the points seemed excessive. The one on the lower right was more what we would ride with occasionally. Her dad owned Cross Creek Ranch in Lompoc, CA and my dad changed the name of his to Cross Creek as well; it was easier for people than Thibadeau Farms as it was next to: Thibadeau in Montana refers to Lake Thibadeau National Wildlife Refuge and the Thibadeau Fishing Access Site. The refuge is located in northern Hill County, Montana, and is primarily composed of conservation easements on private land, meaning public access is limited and requires permission from landowners.

By the late 1600s the prick spur had gone out of use in New Spain, and the spur with the spinning rowel was used exclusively. Made in central Mexico, the finest spurs were covered with incised decoration and silverwork. Rowels and heelbands changed in size and shape following the fashions of the times. The spur continues to be the symbol of the horseman in the American Southwest.
