Founded in 1720 by Father Antonio Margil de Jesús.
Nicknamed "Queen of Missions" for being the largest and most beautiful in San Antonio.
The still-standing church was built in 1768.
Partially secularized in 1794 and fully by Mexico in 1824.
Restored in 1930 after falling into disrepair.
By 1937 the church dome and roof were restored.
Although the structural remains of the mission have been altered architecturally throughout their existence, they exemplify colonial architecture in Texas.
