Balancing the rock. You can even hike up there. So much to do when I come back.

Balanced Rock, a famous geological formation near Buhl, Idaho. The rock is over 48 feet tall and weighs approximately 40 tons. It balances on a tiny pedestal that measures only 3 feet by 17 inches. The unique shape was carved by wind erosion over millions of years from volcanic rock.

The formations are primarily composed of basalt pillars.

Local lore, such as the Shoshone-Bannock legend, tells a story of Coyote turning his wives into these rock pillars. (Good one!)
