On our drive to Las Vegas. The continued drive on 93 still didn't disappoint. Of course, we were listening to the audio book about Lewis and Clark which maintained our interest too.

Top: Chimney Rock within the Humboldt Range in Nevada.
Elevation: The peak sits at 10,005 feet. Context: It is a high-altitude peak in Nevada, often accessed via backpacking or challenging hiking routes, rather than a developed state park, as noted for other locations. Geology: The broader area (Chimney Creek) is known for being part of a gold-bearing, heavily altered mineralized region involving limestone and basalt.

GL couldn't ID the peak in the Bottom Photo or I didn't believe it, not sure so I asked Gemini and was surprised to learn it was: This mountain is **Wheeler Peak**, the crown jewel of **Great Basin National Park** in eastern Nevada. Standing at **13,065 feet**, it is the highest point in the [Snake Range]and the second-highest peak in the entire state of Nevada. This specific angle highlights its iconic, jagged profile as seen from the [Great Basin Highway](US-50/US-6).

### Fast Facts about Wheeler Peak:
I had no idea: * **Glacial Legacy:** It is home to the **Wheeler Peak Glacier**, one of the southernmost glaciers in the United States, tucked away in the massive cirque below the summit.
* **Bristlecone Pines:** The slopes of this mountain harbor the **Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest**, where some trees are over 4,000 years old—making them among the oldest living organisms on Earth.
* **The Summit Hike:** Despite its formidable look, there is a [well-maintained trail]to the summit. It is an 8.6-mile round trip that starts at high elevation, making it a popular but strenuous challenge due to the thin air. * **Prominence:** It is technically the tallest "independent" mountain in Nevada. While Boundary Peak is higher (13,147 ft), it is considered a sub-peak of Montgomery Peak in California.
